Utility pole inspections underway

Jo-Carroll Energy has contracted with Osmose Inc. to conduct utility pole inspections for 2017.

JCE board plans open board meeting

The Jo-Carroll Energy Board of Directors will hold an open board meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the board room at the cooperative’s Elizabeth headquarters.

This is the regular October meeting of the board. Members may speak during the “Member Comment” period or if requested by the board chair. The member comment period will be limited to a total of 30 minutes; each member may speak for a period of time not to exceed three minutes.

Flooding hampers outage restoration

Due to flooding in parts of the Jo-Carroll Energy service territory early Saturday morning, line crews were pulled from the areas served by the cooperative's Canyon Substation for safety reasons. This includes the Apple River, Stockton and Elizabeth areas.

JCE representative testifies at US House subcommittee hearing on rural broadband

Access to high-speed broadband internet is essential for the continued success and well-being of rural America, small businesses and continued economic development a local cooperative representative told a U.S. House subcommittee on Thursday. 

Area students represent JCE on Youth Tour

Meg Flynn of Galena and Paula Israel of Fulton represented Jo-Carroll Energy in Washington, D.C., during the annual “Youth to Washington” Tour, June 9-16. This event, sponsored by the electric and telephone cooperatives of Illinois since the late 1950s, is an introduction to our democratic form of government and cooperatives for rural youth.

Transmission outage affects Geneseo area substations

One of Jo-Carroll Energy's transmission providers had an outage during the night that affected both of the cooperative's substations serving the Geneseo area.

Power should be restored to members served as of Friday morning. However, because the transmission line was out while it was still storming there may be other outages that the cooperative is not aware of.

Tindell appointed to co-op board

Dan Tindell of Galena has been appointed to Jo-Carroll Energy’s board of directors, representing District 4.

David Senn, chairman of the cooperative’s board of directors, announced the appointment following the board’s regular May meeting held May 31.

Tindell and his spouse, Pam, have been members of Jo-Carroll Energy since 1996 when they moved from Springfield, IL.  He was appointed to the vacant District 4 Director position in May of 2017.

‘We Are Co-op’ theme celebrates cooperative business model

Bolivia project, director elections highlight co-op annual meeting

Celebrating the cooperative business model was central to the theme “We Are Co-op” at Jo-Carroll Energy’s 78th annual meeting of members held at West Carroll High School in Savanna on Tuesday, May 23.

From the cooperative’s local roots to turning on the lights in a remote Bolivian village, the speakers and presentations focused on the cooperative principles of membership, cooperation and community.

Natural Gas Members: Excess flow valve notification

A new regulation by the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requires Jo-Carroll Energy to notify all natural gas members about excess flow valves (EFVs) and to install and EFV if requested.
