2019 Rate Change
Jo-Carroll Energy has announced it will implement a rate change for electric and natural gas effective March 1. The increase was approved as part of the cooperative’s 2019 budget. The new rates will be reflected on bills members receive in April 2019.
There are two primary reasons for the rate increase, which is the first increase in base rates in four years.
- Overall inflation has increased by more than 6% over the past four years. Our daily operations are not immune to these economic pressures. The cooperative is paying more for materials, products and services, from the purchase of wholesale energy to everyday operating costs.
- As a not-for-profit cooperative, Jo-Carroll must recover the costs of doing business, as well as maintain sufficient margins to reinvest in the distribution system. Although the cooperative has managed expenses for the last four years without a rate increase, the fixed costs for providing service have increased at the same time energy sales have been in a gradual decline.
